The Vanilla Mustache is back! As always, the VM is bringing you the best and brightest of the rising stars of the Pacific Northwest. This month features the nitty gritty soul of progressive blues and original soul of Stephanie Anne Johnson and Whitney Monge!

Fresh off this season of The Voice, Stephanie Anne Johnson (pictured) is a Voice Top 20 award-winning indie blues singer/songwriter. Her soulful sound combines elements of blues, folk and rock, and she is constantly refining her favorite instrument, her voice. Guided by a killer musical instinct, her rich, melodic soundscapes surround her audience and inspire her listeners into a depth of emotional possibility.

While growing up in Tacoma, WA, Stephanie’s ears were filled with the likes of Etta James, Cab Calloway, Bonnie Raitt, and Aerosmith. When those influences melded with guitar lessons, voice coaching, and a study of the classics, a raw, soulful dreaminess began to pour from her pen and her lips. As gritty emotion spilled forth, Stephanie found herself performing her songs to international audiences in a wide range of venues. From ruling the always moving stage of a cruise ship in the Mediterranean to captivating 15 million viewers on an Emmy winning vocal competition, Stephanie’s voice exposes the underlying emotions that we as humans so often have to hide in our day-to-day existence. It’s music to fall in love.

Originally from Spokane, WA, singer-songwriter, Whitney Mongé moved to the Seattle area in 2008 to pursue her career in music. She began her journey busking in the Pike Place Market, which has since led to several opportunities such as live performances on ESPN’s “Mayne Event”, The Bob Rivers Show, KSER, KYRS and an artist spotlight on the local PBS television station KTCS 9, that aired on May 30th, 2013 on the PIE series.

Mongé‘s 2011 debut album, Heartbeat, snowballed into such a success that seven months later she recorded her EP Steadfast produced by Grammy Award Winner, Pete Stewart. Her raspy, sultry vocals are highly reminiscent of Melissa Etheridge and Tracy Chapman. Each album consists of the deep, introspective lyrics that Mongé is known for which you can hear on iTunes or Amazon now.

Mongé is fresh off her West Coast tour and plans to release her single “Gracefully”, along with a music video, in the spring of 2014.
